December 16th - Yes. It has been an entire month since I last posted anything. Why? Well, let's start with this message, which I sent out two weeks ago to a handful of e-correspondents:
OK, so my Internet has been down since just before Thanksgiving (I'm not sure of the exact date, but I am just now seeing e-messages from November 25th). As of this morning, December 2nd, I'm back on-line! The problem was a bad cable between the cable-internet box and the wireless transmitter thing-a-ma-jig. Fun!
I hope to catch up with all e-mail and such in the next day or so, but, for now, please accept this "form letter" response. I'm just heading off to work at the dreaded "real" job right now, after which I'm going to roll up my sleeves, sit down at the ol' laptop, and start cranking out personalized, specific responses. Thanks for your patience! See ya!
Well, needless to say, the problems persisted. The cable wasn't the cause. Oh, it was bad, but it had been made "bad" by the "cable-internet box," which was seriously malfunctioning. For the past month, we've had EXTREMELY spotty connectivity, which has made it nearly impossible to do anything on-line (although I was able to update some WOMP-Site pages, thanks to my off-line page editor...check out the Main Page now). The root of our Internet problems was finally diagnosed and repaired Saturday night. It had been my plan to make my triumphant return to blogging (and all other things on-liney) on Sunday night, but life has had other plans for me. In short, my Aunt Shelby (my Dad's twin sister) is very ill, and I've been helping her (not by myself, or anything like that...mostly just moving stuff from her old, second-story apartment, to her new, first-story place across town). Even today, I spent the first seven and a half hours lifting desks and boxes and trunks and such, then the following six at the dreaded "real" job. Now, just after midnight into the 17th, I finally can wish all of you a...
HAPPY DECEMBER 16TH!
For those of you who came in late, check out december16th.org to learn a little more about just why I'd offer my good wishes on this particular day. Otherwise, I really don't have much more to say tonight. Or, maybe I should say "I really don't have the energy to say much more tonight." For now, I'm whipped...but I'll be back tomorrow.
(Just for fun, I'm posting this picture of our latest family addition. While Alex P. Kitten is awfully cute,
this image also illustrates why our Internet was out; someone knocked over the "cable-internet box,"
seen on the left. Apparently, the "OFF" switch toggled on its own occasionally.
That's all it was. And it took a month or so to get that repaired. Yup)
